What Is Accelerated Reader?

The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is a reading initiative designed to promote literacy and foster a love of reading among students of all ages. Through the program, students choose from a vast selection of books that match their reading level and interests. After reading, they take an online quiz to test their comprehension. Based on their performance, students earn points that contribute to their overall reading goals. This interactive system encourages students to read more, develop better comprehension skills, and track their progress in a fun and engaging way.

Locally in SNSD, Accelerated Reader is a computer-based program that Smackover Elementary teachers use to monitor reading practice and progress of their students. AR helps our teachers guide students to books that are in line with the kids’ individual reading levels. Students take short quizzes after reading a book to check for understanding.
