Safety & Security
At Smackover-Norphlet School District we consider the safety of our students and staff to be of the highest daily priority. Campus safety is of great importance to the Board of Directors and our Administration. We will continue to work together to provide protection and safety to Smackover-Norphlet students, employees and facilities. Smackover-Norphlet School District provides regular training to its staff for emergency situations and practices drills to ensure our systems and plans work effectively should an emergency arise. Smackover-Norphlet School District is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone.
SNSD has its own Emergency Response Team (ERT). This team consists of Commissioned School Security Officers (CSSO) and School Resource Officers (SRO). CSSOs are volunteer, select, and psychologically screened school personnel who have successfully completed the extensive training required by the Arkansas State Police and the Department of Education. CSSOs must also recertify and requalify annually in training that focuses on active shooter and other school crisis situations. Each ERT member carries a firearm either openly or concealed and are prepared to take whatever means necessary to protect our students and employees.
Other security measures employed by the district include regular visits to campuses by city, county, and state law enforcement, entrapment vestibules at building entrances, interior bar locks on every classroom door to prevent forced entry, extensive camera system at each district campus including a camera in every classroom, visitor management system for all school campuses, communication system that allows two-way communication between staff across the district, perimeter fencing around all campuses.
